Viikki Church / JKMM Architects (Finland)
This beautifully organized structure appears greatly influenced by Alvar Aalto (Master Finnish Architect). The way it ties to the landscape with the rusticated perimeter wall and birch forest interior to the subtle modern curves highlighted by the wood shingles. More here.
STACEY ABRAMS
Georgia’s senate shift to blue yesterday is in large part due to Abrams decade-plus commitment to building a Democratic political infrastructure in her state - first with her New Georgia Project and then with Fair Fight - voting rights organizations created to combat voter suppression and make it easier for especially the disenfranchised to get to the poll or mail-in their votes.
She is a powerful force and no doubt a great threat to the mob of pawns at the nations capitol yesterday (Jan. 6, 2021) and their cowardly representatives.
Boat update
Added reinforcements for small sail at the front of kayak and completing bracket for mast (alum. pipe). Also, added final coat of 2-part urethane to the frame. Once all the hardware and backer material are finished, I’ll start pinning, cutting and sewing on the nylon skin. Hoping for Sunday.

Happy New Year
Kayak update (sail time!)
Over the past week, I’ve begun reinforcing my kayak so that I can rig a sail to it. I‘ve always wanted to learn to sail and this seems like the perfect opportunity. Also, I figure I should have enough leftover nylon from the boat skin to make at least two sails. The image below is not my boat or sail, just one of the many DIY ones found for inspiration.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Xenobots
Made from frog embryos, these new lifeforms are millimeter-wide “xenobots” that can move towards a target. They may also be able to pick up a payload, such as a medication, that can be delivered to a specific place inside a person. The xenobots can also heal themselves after being cut.

Tiny Studio/Bunkhouse - James Cutler
So much to love about this 8x10 glass, wood and steel box. Cutler designed and built this so his daughter would have a place for sleepovers and he would have a home office/poker den. Beds and tables fold up against the walls. See more photos here.

Hindu Temple Complex (India) - Sameep Padora & Associates
The stepped temples are made from local black limestone slabs to create a modern take on the traditional forms. These slabs are planted with greenery on the lower levels to buffer the interiors from the heat. To create the water feature, the architectures diverted waste water from a nearby quarry to a low-lying retention basin that was planted with vegetation to naturally clean the water.
