Green Roof trays system
I like the idea of this system for ease of installation and the practicality of a swap-out - if a section or area fails. We plan to try a version of this on our rear flat-roof addition next Spring/Summer. See more here about this system.
Case Study House #21 - Pierre Koenig
This house was created in the 50’s as part of an experiment to see if homes could be designed/built out of low-cost materials to handle the growing population demands of post war America. Read more here about the case study program.
Justin Willman - Magician
My 12 year old daughter introduced me to Justin Willman and Magic for Humans. We all know it’s an illusion and we’re being asked to try and see/guess how it’s done, yet our surprise is in ourselves not being able to figure it out. He’s especially good with kids. Watch here.

Bob Powitz - Artist
Received this driftwood bird in the mail yesterday from my Uncle Bob. I truly love how he sees a second life in things that many others may have passed by. I look forward to seeing where this little bird lands in our house, but for now, it’s on the mantle over the fireplace with some other fun creations.
The Chunnel
This massive undertaking connects England and France under the English Channel. Read more here.
Sonoma Wee House - Alchemy

Brooklyn Bridge - 1870
I have fond memories of biking over this bridge in the early 90’s to and from work at the Board of Ed. in Brooklyn. Leaving at the same time most days from my lower east side apt., I’d notice the same commuters and we’d often wave to one another. I became very aware that many people, especially in NYC, had very set patterns in their days.
For those interested, here is more fascinating history of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Jeffrey Gunshol - Dancer/Choreographer/Teacher/Brother
Jeffrey (top left) is one of those inspiring people who has always navigated space(s) in his own specific way. Growing up together in Baltimore, it was clear that that city would be too small to contain him. In our 20s, we lived on and off together in NY where I saw his talents/abilities expand exponentially. Around 2005, after having danced in several cities around the US & Europe he began and continues to teach Dance/Choreography/Performance at Tulane University in New Orleans full time. We look forward to seeing what he’s working on next.
Luis Barragán - Architect (1902-1988)
Barragán was a Mexican architect/engineer, heavily influenced by European Modernism. His vibrant palette helped define his style. Here’s a good spread about him in Dwell.
Sally Menke - Film editor
Menke edited all but two of these films for Tarantino. Her contibutuions to modern independent film are giant. She died an untimely death in 2010 at the age of 56, while hiking in the hills of LA.
